There is a new highly useful tool for designing bike friendly streets and livable communities. The new Urban Bikeway Design Guide is a publication of the National Association of City Transportation Officials (NACTO), an association that shares transportation practice and experience among its members and represents cities in national transportation issues. The guide was created by a coalition of transportation commissioners from major American and was released in March 2011.
The “Urban Bikeway Design Guide” is online now and will be available soon in print. Click HERE to visit the guide.
“We’re very hopeful to see cities across Virginia adopt the guide and use the practical solutions within to develop bike plans and transportation infrastructure. This user friendly bicycle planning guide is an ideal tool to help make communities more livable,” said Dr. Kim Perry, Executive Director of BikeWalk Virginia. The staff at BikeWalk Virginia are particularly pleased with the guide’s simple straight-forward language and that the guide draws on real life experiences in a wide variety of urban environments.
